What are the characteristics of fresh produce? What is the right stocking time for products before they hit the store shelf? What is an indicator of product freshness? Fresh food manufacturers and logistics operators serving the sector certainly have no problem answering these questions. But do consumers think the same when reaching for their favourite product on the store shelf? This is what you can find out from the Fresh Logistics Polska's latest report “Fresh and on time. Food transportation and the expectations of Poles”.
Each year Fresh Logistics Polska handles over a million shipments of fresh food. Not surprisingly, the company makes every effort to always be close to the market and respond to consumer preferences accordingly. Therefore, the company decided to carry out a market study on the basis of which it created the report on consumer expectations regarding production, transport and storage of fresh food.
The “Fresh and on time” report is an excellent source of knowledge about consumer preferences enriched with interesting graphics and opinions by expert including: Marek Borowski, President of the Federation of Polish Food Banks, Justyna Bylinowska, PhD, food and nutrition technologist, editor-in-chief of the portal www.dietetycy.org.pl and Monika Ciesielska, DR Lifestyle, nutritionist and author of the popular blog www.drlifestyle.pl.
Although our tables are dominated by fresh produce and homemade meals, Poles are increasingly willing to reach for ready-made semi-finished products or dishes. The assortment in shops is adapting to the needs of the market and even in discount stores you can buy high quality, healthy “ready meals” - this is how Monika Ciesielska, nutritionist and blogger comments on the latest trends.
The report also includes respondents' opinions on what they think fresh produce is, how it should be stored at home, and the importance of proper temperature and storage time for food. Consumers also pay a lot of attention to food safety, product quality and delivery time. For instance, 53% believe that fresh food deliveries to stores should be take place daily or possibly several times a week (31% of respondents). In contrast, for more than 56% of the surveyed, a product's low degree of processing is an indicator of its freshness...
In order to prepare the report, Fresh Logistics conducted a market research together with Chromatique agency using two research techniques: CAPI and CAWI The CAPI research (computer-assisted personal interviewing) has been carried out in the field, near hypermarkets in two large cities: Poznań and Warsaw The respondents are consumers of fresh food and others, diverse in age, education, gender, geographic location, or household type.
