“No transport, no...” workshop

2017.12.08
On November 24, 2017, Magdalena Banach for the fourth time met the children from the sociotherapeutic centre in Szczytniki (commune of Kórnik). This time the main topic of the talk was the role of road transport. The participants took part in arts and craft workshop and in an educational quiz.

During the first part the children answered the question why transport is necessary. The answers were many but conclusion only one: “Without transport we would have nothing”.

This was followed by arts workshop during which boys coloured trucks filled with presents and girls took care of Christmas trees they should be placed under. The children knew that their works would help ill Tymek whose affliction (a rare cancer of the sympathetic nervous system) ended his safe childhood. Two works were framed and auctioned for the benefit of the ill boy. The others were used to make a Christmas card for one of the families who are helped by Raben Group employees as part of the “Noble Parcel” project.

The next part of the meeting was devoted to the “Quiz Parcel” - a parcel filled with safety puzzles (“Be safe on the road, on the playground, during holidays”, “Do you know road signs?”, “Cyclist equipment”, “First aid”, “Healthy diet”), i.e. a revision of all the topics which Magda discussed during previous meetings with the children. The quiz parcel changed hands. Each child drew a question and all of them passed the test with flying colours. Each question was answered correctly!

After the arts workshop and the quiz, it was time for fun with clay. Part three called “Clay wrestling a.k.a. relax your hands” was devoted to crafts.

The workshop was run by the amazing coach, Miss Clay. At the beginning the children heard a short story of clay and then they got down to work! Sometimes finding the shape they wanted took some time which taught patience, engagement and perseverance. At the beginning the children played with self-hardening clay. Later they worked with natural material. They made coasters which the coach is going to bake is a special oven.

At the end the children received small gadgets - reflective elements to always be visible on the road and a board game.
