Unveiling of the plaques of Theodorus Raben Roundabout in Gądki

2017.05.19
On May 18, 2017, there was an official ceremony of unveiling plaques with the name of Theodorus Raben Roundabout, which was held on one of the roundabouts of the Gądki Junction. The new name is a tribute paid to the founder of the first Raben branch in Poland. The ceremony was attended by representatives of the local authorities of the town of Kórnik and by Ewald Raben, the current CEO of Raben Group, Theo's son.

The idea to name the roundabout was the initiative of Raben employees who were strongly involved in the project and were able to inspire the local government. The outcome of the discussions was the decision of the Council of the the Town and Commune of Kórnik to give the name of Theodorus Raben to the roundabout.. Theodorus Raben is extremely important for Raben Group, whose head office is located in Robakowo. It was he who for the first time initiated transport operations of the company in Poland and opened a new Raben branch in Baranowo near Poznań. Theo Raben was born in 1937, six years after his father, Jan Raben, set up Raben Transport company in the Dutch town of Meddo. In 1960 he took over the company from his father. In his free time, he was a fan of autocross. In 1990 he even became the Dutch champion of the Kever class. The website of the Dutch autocross teams of Lievelde remembers him in the following way: "Theo has built an amazing company, yet his exceptional feature was his openness which he passed onto others."Theo frequently visited Poland, getting to know the people and the country which was chosen as home by his son, Ewald.  He supported the investments and development of Raben Group and, as every father, he was proud of the success of his children. He passed away in February 2016 after a long illness. His sons, Marco and Ewald, took over the helm of the family company from their father and focused its development on Central and Eastern Europe.
