Raben Transport, a Raben Group company specialising in FTL transports, has entered into a partnership with the independent multi-energy group Unimot. As part of the pilot programme, Unimot supplies Raben Transport's fleet with HVO100 fuel from September 2024, supporting the company in its decarbonisation strategy.
HVO100 (Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil) is a product whose emissivity allows for CO2 reductions of up to 90% relative to the average values adopted for B0 by KOBiZE (the National Centre for Emissions Management). It is a type of synthetic, renewable alternative fuel for diesel engines. The exceptionally low CO2 emissions are due to the circularity approach, i.e. a closed cycle of raw materials. The product is obtained by modern refining processes - by hydrocracking or hydrogenation of vegetable oil or animal fats using hydrogen and catalysts under high temperature and pressure.
Raben Group started the first tests of HVO100 fuel in the second half of 2023 in the Netherlands, and the positive results led to the decision to use it in further markets. From February 2024, Raben Transport decided to use this biofuel for international transport in Germany and Austria. In Poland, HVO100 will be supplied by Unimot Group for Raben Transport as part of the pilot test programme. Currently, around 5% of Raben Group's own fleet uses this biofuel, and the percentage is steadily growing.
The increase in the use of biofuels is part of Raben Transport's strategy to have 10 per cent of its fleet powered by alternative fuels by 2025, rising to 75 per cent within the next five years.
- Hydrotreated vegetable oil, or HVO100, is a low-emission fuel that can allow for cutting of up to 90% of CO2 emissions into the atmosphere. It is an excellent substitute for traditional diesel recommended by leading truck manufacturers for use in traditional diesel engines. Thus, its use is an important element in the decarbonisation of heavy transport. For us, it is an important element in the implementation of our ESG strategy - emphasises Joanna Górna, Key Account Manager at Raben Transport. - Currently, more than 20% of CO2 emissions are the result of the heavy transport sector. This is a big responsibility towards the environment and, knowing this impact, we are trying to develop viable, practical solutions together with our partners as part of the reduction in this area.
The Unimot Group, which supplies HVO fuel to Raben Transport, is committed to innovative and low-emission solutions. The company was the first in Poland to allow customers to purchase HVO100 and to introduce the possibility of filling up with this fuel at the first of its petrol stations.
- As a Polish multi-energy capital group and a leader among fuel importers in Poland, we are happy to support Raben Transport in the implementation of its decarbonisation strategy. The HVO fuel we offer effectively reduces the carbon footprint while being a practical and accessible solution - requiring no investment in new fleet or fleet modifications, and is an alternative to traditional diesel recommended by leading diesel engine manufacturers. It is a viable way to significantly reduce CO2 emissions, and it meets the growing needs of the transport sector to achieve sustainability targets - says Wojciech Iwulski, Climate Solutions Director at the Unimot Group.
The introduction of the innovative HVO fuel into the Unimot Group's multi-energy portfolio is also one of the activities that help the implementation of solutions to support the energy transformation of the Group and its stakeholders, in line with the 2024-2028 business strategy.
