The third year of the National Food Collection took place in hundreds of shops all over the Czech Republic on Saturday, 21st of November 2015. During the whole day the customers of involved retail chains could donate non-perishable food into the baskets behind the cash desks. The donated food was then taken to food banks and afterwards distributed to local organisations which help the people in need, such as mothers and children, children in orphanages, seniors, people with disabilities, homeless and others.

The result exceeded the expectations. The people donated 236 tons of food during the third year of this charitable event. These were transported from selected store counters into food banks or to local non-profit organisations. And our company - Raben Logistics Czech – took care about the transport of these donations.

Altogether, 14 drivers from four depots sat behind the steering wheels of their cars on Saturday, 21st of November and they drove 2193 kilometres to transport the food bought by customers in selected retail chains there where they need it. It was mostly to food banks or non-profit organisations, where these were distributed further to the people in need.

“We are always happy to support a good cause. And we are even more delighted that a nationwide project was connected with an activity in which we are experts”, mentioned Jakub Trnka, General Director of Raben Logistics Czech and Slovakia.

“As a transportation partner, we took part in the National Food Collection for the first time. And our premiere was excellent. And not only that. We also engaged our employees as volunteers and we enthusiastically helped with the collection of donations in selected stores all over the Czech Republic. I would like to thank all of them for their effort and support”, adds Martina Netuhová, Marketing and PR Specialist, Raben Logistics Czech.

Every year the collection tries to react to the fact that more than 14% of the Czech inhabitants (nearly 1.5 million people) are threatened by poverty or social exclusion.

Together with the initiative Food helps without VAT, the National Food Collection is a part of more complex project “Food helps” which main objective is to develop a discussion and to initiate solution of food shortage problems on one side and food waste on the other.
